		Dry coir rolls have more strength and durability than vegetated coir rolls. High cost of transportation and difficulty in handling of the vegetated coir rolls make restoration with vegetated coir rolls more expensive and less practical. Slow degrading coir fiber last longer providing erosion protection, thereby allowing sufficient time to establish a sustainable vegetation in field conditions.

RoLanka's BioD-Roll coir rolls are made from densely packed coconut fiber into a 2 in x2 in outer netting. These strong coir rolls provide initial structural stability for shorelines by resisting wave action and flow velocity. Coir fiber core in BioD-Roll is an excellent medium for plant growth. Upon installation of coir rolls, desired native plants should be planted on or around coir rolls where plants can get sufficient water. With time, sediment will be deposited around coir rolls creating excellent medium for riparian vegetation. The densely packed coir rolls last over 5 years providing erosion resistance and supporting establishment of sustainable vegetation.

RoLanka's BioD-Roll coir rolls are available in 12 in (30 cm), 16 in (40 cm), and 20 in (50 cm) diameters. The 2 in x in (5cm x 5cm) outer net is available in 90 lbs (400 N) strength coir twine. The 12 in (30 cm) coir rolls are available in 7lbs/cu. ft as well as 9 lbs/cu. ft. densities. Since the larger diameter coir rolls are used for stronger support at stream toe, these rolls are available only in 9lbs/cu.ft. (144 kg/cu.m)] density. We have lightly compacted coir wattles BioD-Watl^TM for sediment control.

Ten feet long coir rolls are not only easy to handle at restoration sites, but also reduces cost of freight charges. Coir rolls can be easily joined at the site using BioD-Twine 6mm coir twine. Loose mattress coir fiber is available to fill the gaps, if necessary.
